A blurb is not a summary. A summary tells someone what happens; a blurb tells them what is at risk and then stops. The most common mistake self-published authors make is answering the question the blurb is supposed to raise.

- How long should a book blurb be?
- Between 100 and 200 words for most fiction. Amazon shows roughly the first 200 characters before a 'read more' link, so the hook has to survive being cut there.
- Should the blurb give away the ending?
- No. A blurb raises the question the book answers. Revealing the answer removes the reason to buy it.
- Can I edit what it gives me?
- You should. Treat these as drafts that get the structure right, then cut them by a third and put your own specifics back in.
