Terms of Service

1. What the service does

AuthorGPT generates book-length manuscripts from a description you provide. You choose a genre, a length and a style; the service plans a chapter outline for your approval and then writes and edits each chapter. Finished books can be read in the browser and exported as PDF, Word, EPUB or an Amazon KDP kit, depending on your plan.

Output is produced by large language models. It will contain errors, and it is not reviewed by a person before you see it.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 16 years old to use AuthorGPT. You are responsible for the accuracy of your account details, for keeping your credentials secure, and for everything done through your account. Tell us at support@authorgpt.ai if you believe someone else has access to it.

One person, one account. Sharing an account, or reselling access to one, is not permitted.

3. Subscriptions, renewal and cancellation

Paid plans are subscriptions billed monthly or yearly in advance through Stripe. They renew automatically at the end of each period at the price then in force until you cancel.

You can cancel at any time from your account. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not end the period you have already paid for. You keep full access, and the credits already granted to you, until that period ends.

We may change prices with at least 30 days’ notice before the change takes effect for you. If you do not accept a price change, cancel before your next renewal.

4. Refunds

Subscription payments and credit purchases are non-refundable, and credits that have been spent cannot be refunded. If a book fails to generate for a technical reason, the credit is returned to your account automatically; that is the remedy for a failed generation.

Nothing in this section affects rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded by agreement. If you are a consumer in a jurisdiction granting a statutory right of withdrawal or refund, that right applies regardless of the paragraph above. Where the law allows you to waive a cooling-off period by asking for immediate performance, generating a book is that request.

5. Credits

Books and chapter rewrites are paid for in credits. Credits granted as part of a subscription are for that billing period and do not carry over. Credits you buy separately do not expire while your account is open.

Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred between accounts and cannot be exchanged for money.

6. Ownership of what you generate

You own the manuscripts you generate. We claim no copyright in them and place no restriction on publishing or selling them, including commercially and under your own name or a pen name.

Because output is generated by a model, we cannot promise it is unique. Similar prompts can produce similar text, and we make no warranty that any output is original or does not resemble existing work. Checking originality before you publish is your responsibility, as is complying with the AI-content disclosure rules of any platform you publish on, including Amazon KDP.

You keep ownership of everything you submit. You grant us only the licence needed to run the service: to process your text, send it to our model providers to generate your book, and store the result for you.

7. Acceptable use

You may not use AuthorGPT to produce:

• material that infringes copyright, including deliberate attempts to reproduce or closely imitate a specific existing work
• content presented as the work of a real person without their permission, or otherwise impersonating someone
• sexual content involving minors, or material that sexualises real people without consent
• content that harasses, defames or incites violence against a person or group
• academic work of any kind — essays, dissertations, coursework or anything submitted for assessment as your own unaided work. AuthorGPT is for books you publish under your own name
• content that is illegal where you are, or where you publish

You also may not attempt to circumvent usage limits, resell access, or use automated means to extract content from the service beyond your own books.

8. Fair use of the service

Plans are sold on the basis of normal individual use. We may apply reasonable limits to protect availability, and may contact you before restricting an account whose use is far outside that.

9. AI disclaimer

Generated text may be inaccurate, inconsistent or misleading. This is especially important for nonfiction: statements of fact, statistics, quotations, citations, legal, medical and financial claims must all be verified independently before you rely on them or publish them. The service is a drafting tool, not a source of truth.

10. Availability

We aim to keep the service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may change, suspend or discontinue features with reasonable notice where it is significant. Generation depends on third-party model providers, and an outage at one of them will affect us.

11. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from your settings; doing so deletes your books. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, and where we do we will tell you why unless prevented by law. If we close your account for a reason other than a breach by you, we will refund the unused part of your current period.

12. Liability

To the extent the law permits, AuthorGPT is provided as-is, and we exclude implied warranties. We are not liable for lost profits, lost manuscripts, or indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability in any twelve-month period is limited to what you paid us in that period.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top always reflects the current version, and we will give notice by email before a material change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.

14. Dispute resolution

Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the service is to be resolved by binding arbitration rather than in court, except where the law does not permit it. You waive the right to a jury trial and to take part in a class action, to the extent the law permits that waiver.

This does not remove your right to bring a claim in a small claims court, or any right you have under consumer law that cannot be waived by agreement.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas and the laws of the United States of America, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. This does not affect mandatory consumer protections in your own country of residence.
